Roser de Montserrat
Architect, Mother and Artist.
Roser de Montserrat Cua Navarro, born in Viña del Mar, Chile, to a Chilean mother and Spanish father, has embraced creativity and storytelling from a young age. At nine, she won a national literature contest, foreshadowing her passion for artistic expression.
Trained as an architect, Roser excelled in a male-dominated field, earning top honors for her work exploring the semiotics of the sword in literature and history. Her seminar, A Window of Time and Space, analyzed the evolution of public spaces, blending architectural theory with artistic interpretation—defining her career.
Her work spans architectural projects and heritage restorations, including the Church of Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro. Roser’s art transforms discarded materials into meaningful pieces, reflecting themes of memory and renewal.
Among her cherished pieces are Develación, Hibernación, and Presentación, which explore femininity and transformation. Unlike her architectural projects, these works are designed to “fly” to new homes, embodying movement and reinvention.
Living in a home she co-designed with her husband 25 years ago, Roser balances her roles as a professor, artist, and caregiver to her family, including her 97-year-old mother. Her art celebrates life’s cycles, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
